Artist: Solefald
Album: In Harmonia Universali
Genre: Avant-Garde, Post-Black Metal, Experimental
Solefald is a Norwegian metal band that was formed by members Lars Are “Lazare” Nedland and Cornelius Jakhelln in August 1995, with Lars singing and playing keyboard/synthesizer/piano and drums, and Cornelius singing and playing guitar and bass. The meaning of the band’s name is best explained in an interview from Century Media Records website. Lazare states “Solefald is an old norse word for sunset. We “stole” it from a painting by the Norwegian artist Theodor Kittelsen
The lyrics are sung in four languages on this album, English, Norwegian, French, and German. The incorporation of an authentic grand piano, a male choir, authentic Spanish classical acoustic guitar, violin, and saxophone. The music was extremely layered, consisting of composite riffs and angular, colorful leads from the guitars, swirling and beautiful hammond keyboard sections, and powerful and tight drumming. Every song on this album is an epic piece of art.

Artist: Diablo Swing Orchestra
Genre: Operatic, Avant-Garde, Symphonic Metal, “Swing-Metal”
Right, well there’s no better way to say it than this band is … weird. If you like trying new music this is something to go for. When I describe it as Operatic I mean it. Their vocalist sings in an opera style and she’s very good. This is NOT a gothic female fronted band. These guys are avant-garde as hell. You’ll hear tones of Spanish classical guitar, Cello, Bass, trumpet, and there’s a lot of influnce from the Swing and maybe even the Ska Movement.
Still this group is a blend and mixture of complex styles. They push a lot of the boundaries in ways that might raise your eyebrows. Give it a go and see what you think. It’s certainly something very different in a sea of cookie cutter Gothenburg Melo-Death, Metalcore, and Black Metal Bands that we’re inundated with.

Artist: Disillusion
Genre: Progressive Death Metal, Melodic Death Metal
Okay, normally I’m not a big Melodic Death fan. I think the genre is replete with people too busy trying to copy In Flames or Dark Tranquillity to be creative and original. However, this is an amazing album. It’s technically complex, beautifully orchestrated as an album, rather than a group of individual songs.
I can’t stop listening to this album, the title track itself is mind blowing, starting off with a violin solo and then kicking up the metal. The creativity is here, the musicianship is here, the talent is here. This album is simply astounding.Listen to it all the way through and then listen again, you’ll pick up new things each time.

Release Notes:
Dear metal maniacs! Please fasten your seatbelts and watch your jaws drop the following info will be unbelievable as well as unexpected! Without saying a word the music of HACKNEYED tells enough already modern death metal with its very own flavour that shows the technical abilities as well as the tribute they pay to the legends of the genre. The sound of the band will not only appeal to death metal heads but also fascinate the whole extreme metal scene. Hilarious drumming with machine gun like snare attacks
that will put a smile on the face of every fan of grindcore as well as
perfect groove bombs that unerringly hit the listeners knees. In addition to this the band offers impressively skilled brutal guitar dual power and a shouter that convinces vocalwise as well as on stage.
Even if Death Prevails marks the bands debut release, theyÆre already far from what is called verse-chrosus-verse caboodle. Also the band crops up on stage so smoothly like they never did anything else before than rocking the crap out of their crowd while hitting the stage real hard.
Let’s get back to the above mentioned dropped jaws: HACKNEYED exists for one year now playing their first show mid 2007. The boys do not only able to handle the particular instrument they play within the band very well, they also are able to play the instruments of
their compagnons without any problems. So did Drummer Tim for example when he recorded some of the guitar tracks while their time in the studio.
Now listen up: the average age of the bands members is just 16 years! Let me stress this again: SIXTEEN YEARS! Also one of the guitarists is just 14 years old!! This band will have to be brought to their own shows by older friends etc. for quite some time but aside to that they just pull over and drive on then fast lane when it comes to showing other bands as well as the main part of the scene, what’s really up!
